Keeping Them Comfortable Until You’re Here

If a Tooth Was Knocked Out

• Pick up the tooth by the crown (the white part), and be careful not to touch the root.
• Rinse it gently with water, no soap.
• Place it in a glass of milk and bring it with you. 
• Don’t wrap the tooth in a tissue.
• Don’t try to reinsert it yourself. 

If a Tooth Is Chipped or Broken

• Rinse their mouth gently with warm water.
• Hold a cold compress against their cheek to reduce swelling.
• Don’t let them chew anything on the side of the damaged tooth.

If They’ve Got a Toothache

• Have them rinse with warm salt water.
• Hold a cold compress against their cheek if there’s swelling.
• Don’t put aspirin directly on the gum as it can irritate the tissue.

If There’s Bleeding Inside the Mouth

• If bleeding won’t slow down, go to your nearest ER.
• Apply gentle pressure with a clean, damp cloth.
• Use a cold compress to reduce swelling.
